The National Institute of Nuclear Physics, INFN, is the Italian research institute that promotes, coordinates and carries out scientific research in the field of nuclear, subnuclear and astroparticle physics and fundamental interactions, as well as the technological development necessary for the activities in these sectors. It operates in close connection with university and in the context of international collaboration.
Given the enormous amount of data produced, to be stored and processed, deriving from Grid Computing operations, the INFN needed systems with very high computational power, capable of guaranteeing high performance and very low levels of failure, as well as huge PB of storage. E4 therefore provided very high performance servers (around 4500 servers, of which 1000 GPU-based), storage solutions for a total of 17 PB and after sales services.
In addition to the implementation of the highly customized system, E4 has also added a support service, with sudden interventions in the event of a fault (4H), thus ensuring constant system operation and continuous system support.
